For everyone, may the Jubilee be a moment of genuine, personal encounter with the Lord Jesus, the “door” (cf. Jn 10:7-9) of our salvation, whom the Church is charged to proclaim always, everywhere and to all as “our hope” (1 Tim 1:1).
~ Pope Francis, Spes Non Confundit 1
Pope Francis ushered in the Jubilee Year of Hope when he opened the Holy Door of Saint Peter's Basilica on Christmas Eve 2024, and the Jubilee will continue through 2025.
Following the calendar of Jubilee Events, Church of the Ascension will be recognizing and honoring members of our community throughout the Jubilee year with additional Prayers of the Faithful and special blessings during weekend Masses.
We will also be including Pope Francis' Jubilee Prayer in weekend Masses.
Bishop Barry Knestout has named four churches in the diocese as pilgrimage sites for the Jubilee Holy Year 2025:
As a parish, we have not organized a pilgrimage, but we encourage anyone undertaking a pilgrimage to let us know so we can pray for your journey. Bishop Knestout also reminds the faithful of the Jubilee Indulgence available to anyone undertaking a pious pilgrimage.
If you are interested in organizing a group pilgrimage, please contact the Parish Office: 757-495-1886 x410 or secretary@ascensionvb.org
Our Faith Formation families have been encourage to create a Holy Door in their home as a way to celebrate the Jubilee. Take a look at Faith Formation's door for inspiration and consider creating a Holy Door in your home.

Father in heaven,
may the faith you have given us
in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of charity enkindled
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope
for the coming of your Kingdom.
May your grace transform us
into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel.
May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos
in the sure expectation
of a new heaven and a new earth,
when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,
your glory will shine eternally.
May the grace of the Jubilee
reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread
the joy and peace of our Redeemer
throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed,
be glory and praise for ever.
Amen
